There’s only one Matterhorn

Perhaps the most identifiable peak in the world, the Matterhorn has long captivated climbers. It is not technically difficult, but the shear amount of terrain that one must cover to reach the summit and back requires good fitness and training.

After spending the night at the Hörnli Hut, we rise early and make our way up fixed ropes and scrambling, passing the Solvay emergency shelter before reaching steeper terrain, more fixed ropes, and snow slopes that lead to the summit. It usually takes 4-5 hours to reach the summit, and the same time to descend back to the hut.

Make a trip out of it

This is a route that demands good fitness, stamina and acclimatization. For this reason, we only book Matterhorn ascents as part of a longer trip that allows us to build up to the demands of the Horn, and to account for weather days and. A Matterhorn ascent combines very well with either a Saas Valley 4000m Peak Week or a Chamonix Custom Alpine Week.
